Dolly-Parton

Dolly Parton, born Jan. 19, 1946 in Locust Ridge Tenn. to a family of 12 poor children who would grow up together eventually, learned very early on how to conquer of her difficulties through her vibrant and imaginative imagination. Prior to learning how to read and write Dolly Parton had already begun to compose her own songs. After getting her first guitar at the age of 8, she began performing on radio stations in Knoxville, Tennessee. The following year, she made her first album with Gold Band Records an independent small label. At the age of 16, she was able to establish herself within the school community but her dream was greater. In 1964, the day after her high school graduation her family moved to Nashville. Dumb Blonde, Something Fishy and Dumb Blonde both charted on Monument Records in 1967. Porter Wagoner's syndicated tv show needed a new singer at around this point. Parton got her first gig in 1967, signed with RCA Records by 1968, she joined the Grand Ole Opry. It was not until 1974 that she opted to walk away from Wagoner's program as the popularity of her own solo records such as Joshua Coat, Many Colors and Jolene was outstripping their joint efforts. Parton's song, I Will Never Be Loved by You (for Wagoner), was able to reach the top of the. number 1 position after the duo broke up. The first time a song reached No.
