Nathalie Emmanuel

Nathalie Joanne Emmanuel was born 2 March 1989. Emmanuel began her acting career by performing in the theatre in the late 1990s. In the years following she was invited to appear in various West End productions including The Lion King. She started her acting career in the year 2006 in Sasha Valentine, a soap opera. Then, she was cast in several British television series which included the sequel Maze Runner. Her mother is Dominican. Her dad is half Saint Lucian, half English. She has an older sister. Emmanuel remembers that her mother was the first to discover her talent for acting when she attended St Hilda's School. It ended in 2014. The Westcliff High School For Girls grammar school followed. She explained that she first realized her interest in acting when she was just three years old. Her mother then encouraged her to attend singing, dancing, and acting classes. In the West End production of The Lion King, Young Nala played the role as Young Nala. In the following year she was cast in Game of Thrones as Missandei Daenerys Targaryen's interpreter. In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, she confirmed that she received the news about winning the role when she was working in a clothing store as shop assistant. In the year 2015, Emmanuel was promoted to an actor in the series. Missandei was the only notable role model who was female of colour on the show. And her death scene, which occurred when she was bound was not popular with viewers who viewed it as an instance of fridging , and also evoked the image of slavery.Emmanuel later told The Guardian: The reaction to the death of Missandei was large because she was the only one. I think a lot of people who felt excluded or marginalized were in a relationship with her or felt they were represented by her especially women of color. It was difficult to be able to let people see her gone, particularly when it happened in the way she did. That's how they are going to pay tribute to the one woman of their race.
